End of the year

Hey everyone
A last blog of the year, and probably until shortly before or after the demo release.
I want to start off by looking back at the beginning of the year. I started developing Nyx Legacy back in March. I had a terrible time because of some personal issues. I used AI a lot to do some soul searching, and after some generic responses and a bunch of strange comments, it actually said something remarkably smart. It told me to do something. Can you imagine AI telling you to get off your butt and do something, have a goal in life?
And I unlocked a hidden dream I had as a child, which was developing a game. There was a problem however.
I cant code, and thus it pointed out RPG Maker. It just so happened to be that RPG Maker ACE was given away for free back in 2024, I believe, and I started to use that. I quickly found out how limited it was, and after a month or so I restarted in RPG Maker MZ. This gave a lot more options. I started to learn code logic and some syntaxes. I still use AI to do the code writing itself.
It wasnt perfect, it had many flaws, but it was a good learning experience.
Fast forward a couple of months. I started learning more and more, but did not want to use AI art for my game. And since I am not great at drawing, I asked Anna to help me. It was Anna's dream to work on a game. She loves drawing, and this meant I had an artist, she had a dream come true.
I quickly figured working on a game alone, as some people do, means cutting down on certain features or story, or spending more time developing. I wasnt ready to do both, and I talked about some of the struggles I had with friends, who were all too glad to offer their help.
Thinking ahead, I already helped 2 people to do something they really want to do, work or help developing a game, and I've unofficially started a company called DreamonInteractive. Within the span of a few months I found a goal to work towards, learned how to do basic coding, set up a company. It was a wild ride, long days and nights, and a lot… seriously, a lot of headaches.
Now back to current time. We have a small team working tirelessly on Nyx Legacy. We added many additional features that the RPG engine doesnt offer. Now let me tell you, this is awesome that it is possible, but also a major pain in the foot sometimes, especially when you want to change deep engine stuff.
Anyway, some changes we made: we added a whole new map dedicated to tutorials, to guide people through the initial moments of the game, as we have some relatively unique systems in place. We did some more balancing. I finally figured out what I did wrong and why the whole balancing was such a pain.
To keep it short, the damage formula used to be:
1 attack = 1 damage
1 defense = -1 damage
So if a character had 1 attack and a monster 1 defense, the character would do a permanent 0 damage. I changed the formula to 1 attack = 4 damage, which makes me able to play a lot more around with defense, making certain monsters tanky and others squishy but strong. I can also play around more with resistances. I am even thinking of increasing it a bit more, but I have yet to think about that.
I also added some survivability to the game. We got new potions, new ways to heal and revive your allies. This was an overlooked thing for me, but discovered by some of the people that tested the game endlessly for me. Creatures have more ways of attacking. This all felt a bit of the same; a rat was no difference from a wild dog other than visuals. I still think there is much to win on this, but the start is there.
I added a few more puzzles and a big secret.
The best thing is, this is all in the demo.
Now to you guys. I seriously want to thank all of you for the support. We have some donators, we had people that offered help, or just been there through the process, doing a call to action for me in their social networks. I cannot express how thankful I am for that. We are at 85 wishlists right now, and that is because of you. Keep in mind, this is without a demo, without early access, without a game that is nearly ready in my eyes. That is a huge accomplishment. Again, thanks to you guys.
Lastly, I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 2026. Stay safe, stay healthy, and talk toward each other. Be helpful and be nice.
Ratt~
